One of the reasons I started my site almost 9 years ago, was to bring information that was being buried by the corporate world. I knew that my path towards healing from auto-immune issues would come from a more holistic path, and I wanted to share this with all of you. I so love it when we are on the right path and the universe gives us signs to confirm this. A confirmation for me is to see how my dear and talented friend Gabriella Tollman and I are both trying to bring information to our community.
We met as young actresses on the UCLA campus, where we bonded over our passion for political theater. She went on to become a prolific writer, actor and director and recently her film Somebody’s Mother has garnered lots of incredible reviews and awards. We actually got to collaborate on a controversial film some years back that tackled the idea of an Iranian woman and sexuality called I Have Sinned. It is such lovely thing to see this relationship that was forged in the name of art, and being messengers to injustice, come totally full circle. We now are united in our passion towards healing and wellness. Being that we both have rebellious natures, we gravitate towards sharing the tales of underdogs that have traversed dangerous places to bring truth to the people. That is why I am so excited to share her latest venture which is aptly called The Peoples’ Potion. After being diagnosed with a serious issue, Gabriella was introduced to Essiac Tea. Essiac is the commonly known name for a four herb decoction (liquid herbal tea concentrate) comprised of burdock root, cut and dried (arcrium lappa), sheep sorrel, whole herb including root, coarsely powdered (rumex acetosella), slippery elm, inner bark, powdered (ulmus rubra/fulva), and turkey rhubarb root, powdered (rheum palmatum).
Essiac Tea is named after Renee Caisse who learned about it’s natural healing properties from the Ojibwa native people.
Gabby and I had a magical day recently where the came over and brewed some Essiac Tea for me. We discussed the incredible life that Renee Caisse lived, and how the world is finally becoming ready to go back to the authentic and pure ways. More on Gabriella, the potion and Renee below ~
1) What makes your soul sing?
I love music, dancing, swimming in the ocean, and jumping on the trampoline with my son. I also love creating stories and images that help me deepen my understanding of life, and inspire me to serve, heal, and love more freely.
2) How did you learn about the Essiac tea?
I was studying for my hypnotherapy certification when I was diagnosed with a scary health issue. My hypnotherapist teacher handed me a folder with information about Essiac tea.
She felt it was important for me to have the information about the tea to use it for my own healing, and to help others.
It felt as if I had been gifted a life’s mission, a calling if you will. I studied the articles and learned about the incredible story behind Essiac tea. I discovered the nurse Rene Caisse who found about this Native American herbal formula from a former patient of hers. Caisse went on to heal thousands of people from all types of illnesses, especially Cancer with Essiac tea. Rene Caisse and her longtime research partner, Dr. Charles Brusch, perfected Essiac tea through years of clinical studies. Brusch was the personal physician to President John F. Kennedy. Caisse also cured both her Aunt and Mother with the tea. I was also shocked to read that the Canadian medical establishment shut down her clinic and locked her in prison. However Caisse never gave in and continued to treat people in private. I was truly inspired by this amazing woman and her commitment to healing people.
I started taking the tea and after 6weeks went back to the doctors and was found to be completely normal.
The experience taught me a lot about the importance of getting second opinions, meditating, trusting one’s intuition, and the wisdom found in nature. I was also awed by the wisdom of the Ojibwa people; the Native American tribe that formulated the tea.
3) What are the merits of taking herbs for our health?
Herbs work with the body to prevent illness, and heal without being too harsh or invasive. The herbs in People’s Potions Thrive Essiac teaare the original Rene Caisse four herb Formula, two of which; Sheep Sorreland Burdock Root are known to kill cancer cells. The other two herbs Slippery Elm inner bark and Turkey Rhubarb build the immune system while detoxing the body and protecting the organs.
4) Do you have a mantra or motto you live by?
I practice transcendental meditation, which helps me stay connected to source energy. It’s a place that keeps me happy and connected to my life force. Meditating helps me stay on track; whenever I feel depressed or disconnected I meditate.
5) How do you envision the future of our planet with the awakening that is slowly happening?
I believe we are in a stage where the darkness of humanity is being revealed to us in a very obvious way. It is our job to shed the light wherever we can. Our future can be beautiful and bright but we have an enormous task at hand. We cannot stand by the sidelines. It is our job to destroy the darkness by flooding it with light, so it can no longer exist. Sometimes we need to be forceful about this. I attempt to shed light through my meditation, and my hypnosis. I believe these practices help raise my consciousness, awareness and energetic vibration. I strive to shed light through my films. Watching a film is a type of hypnosis and storytelling is a cathartic and healing act. I feel that getting People’s Potions Thrive Essiac Tea out into the world will inspire people to take their health into their own hands and heal their bodies, souls, hearts and minds.
6) Do you have a beauty secret or routine?
I drink the tea twice a day, and three times if I feel off balance physically or energetically.
7) Are you a mermaid or forest fairy?
Both. I love swimming in the ocean and spending time with the trees. Nature is resurrection for me.
8) What book is on your night stand?
A course In Miracles and Many Masters, Many Lives by Brian Weiss.
Here is some info on the history of the tea ~
ESSIAC HISTORY
Essiac’s beginnings go back to a time before the calendars we know. It came to a white woman living with breast cancer in the mining camps of northern Ontario Canada in the 1890s, brought by a Native American medicine man. Some decades later, and still cancer-free, she gave the recipe to nurse Rene Caisse. In the 1920s and 1930s, Nurse Caisse experimented with the herbs individually and refined the formula so that it could be injected. She developed several formulae which she used in her Bracebridge, Ontario Cancer clinic to successfully treat a number of patients referred to her by doctors who said they could do no more (thus a nurse referral).
Her most well-known formula is the “classic” four-herb Essiac tea, which contains burdock, sheep sorrel, slippery elm and turkey rhubarb. The original formula was made up of eight herbs including the above-named four plus red clover, watercress, periwinkle and an eighth herb never revealed by Rene Caisse. Snow and Klein’s research points strongly to the likelihood that this eighth herb was goldthread, as there is evidence that Rene Caisse used this herb for some of her patients both during and after the time when she had her Bracebridge cancer clinic. Rene also injected a sheep sorrel decoction and administered the other three herbs as an oral decoction. She occasionally used watercress but with caution, and only for certain patients. She also developed a kidney remedy and a salve.
Rene Caisse kept her formulae secret with very few exceptions. After Rene’s death in 1978, her long-time friend and helper Mary McPherson continued to make the tea and supply many of Rene’s patients for nearly another 20 years. In the 1990s Dr. Gary Glum purchased the four-herb formula from one of Rene’s trusted patients, and released it with his book Calling of An Angel. Later, Mary McPherson recorded a sworn affidavit, formally entering the classic four-herb Essiac formula into the public domain.
The preparation of our special blend of Essiac tea herbs is based upon the work of Sheila Snow and Mali Klein. These authors have spent a combined total of over 40 years researching and documenting Rene Caisse’s life and the story of Essiac, and have collectively written five books on the subject: The Essence of Essiac (Sheila Snow), Essiac Essentials and Essiac – The Secrets of Rene Caisse’s Herbal Pharmacy (Sheila Snow/Mali Klein), and The Essiac Book (Mali Klein). These books are now all out of print. Newly released (March 2011) is the comprehensive volume, The Complete Essiac Essentials (Sheila Snow/Mali Klein). Sheila Snow worked directly with Rene Caisse and was a close friend of Mary McPherson’s for over 10 years (Mary died in 2006). Mali also got to become acquainted with Mary when she spent extensive time in Bracebridge with Sheila, co-authoring the books on Essiac. Sheila spent 27 years compiling a priceless Essiac Archive collection of Rene Caisse’s personal papers and correspondence, legal documents, the only existing Clinic case records, many hours of tape-recorded conversations, newspaper clippings, memorabilia and other documentation of Essiac history.
Essiac was perfected through years of clinical studies by Rene Caisse and her longtime research partner, Dr. Charles Brusch, the personal physician to President John F. Kennedy. This Essiac tonic is said to enable the body to effectively remove toxins and wastes, permitting for cellular renewal and revitalized health.
